jordan raycine starter pack

We've got Death Cab, we've got Bright Eyes, we've got The Shins. we've got Kavalier and Clay. And we've got Goonies. It's not just for kids, Ryan. It's not. I don't care what they tell you. - Seth Cohen

A conversation this eve got me to thinking about passions. My passion beyond passion is music. No I don't sing (well), I don't play an instrument (I tried bass once and failed) and I have nothing to do with anything in the industry (except dating band members in the non-groupie form), but I absolutely love it above anything else. I like to share information and songs I come across and make playlists. Sometimes I find myself shoving documentaries about bands or CDs in peoples arms before they leave my home because they just have to experience it. Most don't care, and that's fine, but either way, I just like the sharing and the discussions it can bring.

So now we're here. What if I had a starter pack? What would I absolutely have to share with anyone?

It's hard to narrow down.

Book-wise, I'd want to include three, but I should probably narrow down to one. That will have to wait. As it stands: The Shining by Stephen King, Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahnuik and Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs by CHuck Klosterman. All three of those have influenced me in the strangest ways.

Movie-wise, I have a few essentials. Some are fantastic cinematic adventures and some are just what I was raised on. As it stands: Grease 2, Donnie Darko, Sonic Highways by The Foo Fighters (this counts), The Breakfast Club, The Shawshank Redemption and The Royal Tenanbaums. That's a motley crew right there.

Music-wise I couldn't even begin to narrow it down. I couldn't. I'd have to make a 22 hour playlist that has no rhyme or reason at all. But if you know me at all, you'll expect some Garth Brooks, Dave Matthews Band, Brand New, Good Charlotte, The Contingency Plan (I"m not bitter) to name a few, however some absolutely soul chilling, mind blowing, give you the shakes and the tears and the feels songs would be some Damien Rice, some Tom Waits, some White Buffalo, some Moody Blues, Seger, Rush, REO Speedwagon, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Reba McEntire, Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Steve Earl, The Eagles, Joy Division, Morrissey OR The Smiths, God, I could go on and on and on.

Oh yeah, and Africa by Toto.

One day I'll narrow it down, or I'll just send people off with a lovely suitcase after spending a shit ton of money I don't have on the "nice" packaging and yeah, I'll throw in some granola bars because that's just how I roll.
